The regulatory framework in the EU has turned against the use of Probiotic and Prebiotic in Food products. This has affected the economic perspective for food products containing Probiotic and Prebiotic ingredients, which by itself can be expected to have negatively affected population gut health in general. In recent years, industry and its associations have initiated  several measures to deal with this - directly via proposing changes to EU interpretation, and indirectly through establishing global cooperation. Objective is to bring the use of the words Probiotic and Prebiotic in line with the worldwide interpretation to have equal access to the food market.
The criteria approach for the use of the term “probiotic” in food has not only a historic background. It also has to provide science-based information to the consumers. IPA Europe cooperates in this with ISAPP. It also cooperates with Codex Alimentarius which will deliver an updated nomenclature and descriptors for Lactobacillae and other probiotic micro-organisms.
This 2nd Gut Health Summit will review the latest information on this, and will also bring latest science and regulatory background. Main objective is to create improved market perspectives for Probiotics as well as Prebiotics, major drivers for improved gut health of the population at large. The Summit will have three main discussion sessions reviewing Science, Claims & Regulatory and Access to Market and Consumer Communication.The meeting will create ample opportunities for networking and new business development.
